# iPad Kiosk mode (Guided access)

## **iPad Kiosk Mode (Guided Access)**

*Lock an iPad on your Virtual Front Desk station with Apple’s built-in Guided Access.*

Guided Access keeps the iPad on a single app, so visitors cannot leave your station or open other apps. Follow these steps once to prepare the iPad, then start Guided Access whenever you set up the station.

## **Step 1: Allow the camera and microphone in Safari**

1. Open **Settings** > **Safari** (on newer iPads: **Settings** > **Apps** > **Safari**).
2. Under **Settings for Websites**, set **Camera** and **Microphone** to **Allow**.

## **Step 2: Keep the screen on**

1. Open **Settings** > **Display & Brightness** > **Auto-Lock**.
2. Select **Never**.

Keep the iPad plugged in at all times.

## **Step 3: Turn on Guided Access**

1. Open **Settings** > **Accessibility** > **Guided Access**.
2. Turn on **Guided Access**.
3. Tap **Passcode Settings** > **Set Guided Access Passcode** and choose a passcode. It can be different from the iPad’s own passcode. You can also turn on **Face ID** or **Touch ID** to end a session.

## **Step 4: Open your station in Safari**

1. Open **Safari** and go to your station address: **station.virtualfrontdesk.com** in the United States (or station.virtualfrontdesk.ca, .global or .asia for your region).
2. Enter the station’s **connection code** from your dashboard, if asked.
3. Hide Safari’s toolbar: tap the page menu icon next to the address, then tap **Hide Toolbar**. The station now fills the screen.

## **Step 5: Start Guided Access**

1. Quickly press the **top button** (or the **Home button** on iPads that have one) three times.
2. In the Guided Access screen, you can circle any area of the screen to disable it, and tap **Options** to turn off features such as the volume buttons.
3. Tap **Start** in the top-right corner.

The iPad is now locked on your station.

## **End Guided Access**

1. Quickly press the top button (or the Home button) three times.
2. Enter your Guided Access passcode, or use Face ID or Touch ID.
3. Tap **End** in the top-left corner.

## **Tips**

- **Use an enclosure stand.** A secure stand protects the iPad and covers the buttons. Choose a model that does not cover the camera.
- **Check the camera and microphone.** If calls do not connect, make sure Safari still allows the camera and microphone. To learn more, read [Troubleshooting Guide, Firewall and Permissions](https://help.virtualfrontdesk.com/en/article/trouble-shooting-guide-firewall-permissions).
